September Wrap-Up!!

It’s October? Actually? You sure? Because I distinctly remember procrastinating over the August wrap-up… it’s too late to do that right? Oh well.

This month I have fall break!! (cue the applause) which may equal daily posting?? Quite possibly?? We (and by we I mean I) have many drafts (okay like 7) to finish and post, so next week, as long as I don’t procrastinate, I may even be… *gasp* active?! Is this allowed? Legal?? I do miss posting daily because of how engaged I was in the community, vs now, when, oh I don’t know, I might read something, reply in my head, and then forget to actually type out a response. Fast forward three days and I still haven’t replied, and now I’m a guilty mess. Not speaking from personal experience or anything. No, I would never.

That aside, lets actually get to the wrap up because I got some things done this month??

I read more than last month!! Which is always lovely, and I actually had a good month in terms of reading?? So many books which I promised to scream about, none of which I ever did… but!! They were good!! I liked them!!

  • Tweet Cute ⭐⭐⭐⭐- 3.8
  • Legendborn ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐- 5
  • Iron Widow ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐- 5
  • The Crossover ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐-4.6
  • Today, Tonight Tomorrow ⭐⭐⭐⭐-4
  • The Great Gatsby (technically this was last month, but I didn’t do a wrap up last month and it was towards the end, so I count it) ⭐⭐⭐⭐-3.5
  • Haikyu!! Manga Vol 1- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐- 5 (I’m biased but I love this okay)

Tweet Cute was good for what I expected it to be, but the plot was kind of predictable/standard. I did adore it, and genuinely enjoyed reading it however. Legendborn and Iron Widow were both absolutely amazing and I really do want to scream about them at some point because they were so. Perfect. The Crossover was required reading, but the best kind of required reading because of the important messages (and the whole thing was in prose and I’m in love with that). Today, Tonight, Tomorrow was ACADEMIC RIVALS TO LOVERS!! AND I LIVE FOR THAT TROPE. So, yes, I did really enjoy this book. The Great Gatsby’s themes were very interesting to read, and although I’m not a huge fan of classic literature in general, this was fairly good. The Haikyu!! manga is fun to read, to not only see what changed from the anime, but also the art is insanely cool.

Suhani gave me access to absolutely wonderful Asian Book Recs (I desperately needed these thank you) and I’m forever obsessed with this post!! It was technically posted in August, but it’s too wonderful (and horrible for my dreams of my TBR ending with all the stunning books mentioned) to not scream about. And technically it was closer to the end of August?? But point is I count it because I love it. Min recommended books based on K-pop songs, and as someone who does listen to quite a lot of K-pop (and. well. who reads.) this was perfect and I must obsess over it forever?? Anoushka gave updates on life in a wonderfully chaotic and engaging fashion (and this was actually so fun to devour?? I need more??) And I loved it, it was stunning.

Ok so I never speak about writing on here (because I can never decide if I absolutely hate something I write or if it’s not terrible). Typically, my “story ideas” are excerpts I randomly write, with no further clue on where to take the plot whatsoever. I did write a few excerpts this month (with absolutely no ideas on worldbuilding and anything else… but I mean pfft who needs those? overrated am I right?) and since October is coming up, I thought I’d share one that’s a bit on the creepier side-ish?? Kind of?? Not really?? How does one categorize. But before I do that, I’m fully convinced that authors are magical because how do they make such amazing stories that make sense?? And are engaging?? I vote magic. And maybe coffee.

The excerpt: “You’re no killer.” How I wish those words were true, but I see the lie when I remember my bloodstained hands, never clean no matter how much I scrub them. The crimson glittered like diamonds, flowing down the curved dagger, dripping onto my outstretched hands. My first kill. They say you never forget it, but I don’t think I truly knew it. It was nothing more than a desperate attempt to keep face. To remain where I was, I had to become them. A copy, another faultless link in the incessant chain. But I was rusted, worn, a defect. Cast out. But to them, to them I was perfect. To them, I was everything. My rust made me lustrous, and a misfit always fits in.

Feedback is always appreciated in terms of writing!! Other than that, favorite fall aesthetic? Also, what scent do you associate with fall? I realize this is a weird question, but I was actually thinking about this (yes, I’m that bored) and I’ve narrowed it down to cinnamon or pumpkin spice. Let’s chat in the comments! ❤

I have to stop doing this to myself.

  3. I need more than just that excerpt!! It is so wonderfully disturbing! 🤩
I’m glad you had a great reading month, too, although I’m not going to pretend I’m not feeling slightly validated by you rating The Great Gatsby so much lower than the other books you read. I still count that as one of the most boring things I ever had to read for school 🤣

    1. Tysm!!
🤣 While The Great Gatsby had interesting themes, I didn’t really enjoy it that much. I kinda want to blame this on my general dislike towards classic literature, but overall it was okay. At least everything else was wonderful last month?? (and now I’m terrified for the fate of my reading this month). Thanks for reading!! ❤️
